Single Vehicle Rollover Claims Life
According to Jason Kaufman of the Prescott Valley Police Department, on Friday March 10th at around 3:12 pm, a driver a of Chevrolet sport utility vehicle lost control while going westbound on State Route 69. The accident caused both occupants to eject from the vehicle as a 46-year old female was transported from the scene did not survive while a 46-year-old man was transported by helicopter to John C. Lincoln hospital in Phoenix with serious injuries, according to the release. It was also stated the initial investigation indicated neither individuals were wearing seatbelts.

Prescott Man Faces Kidnapping, Assault Charges
Prescott Police Department Officer David Fuller announced that on March 7th at approximately 4:39pm, Prescott Police Officers responded to the parking lot at 1365 Iron Springs Road after receiving a report of an argument involving a male and female, with the caller indicating weapons were involved. When officers arrived, they made contact with the female-according to the release. It was also stated officers found out that 57-year-old Brett Goettsch of Prescott had an altercation with a relative at a Prescott residence and had fired a rifle in the direction of the victim. Goettsch then demanded the victim take him to a storage unit to retrieve additional weapons and then demanded the victim take him to a sporting goods store and purchase ammunition, according to the release. It was also stated that Goettsch intended to kill people and have a shoot-out with the police. According to the release, officers conducted a traffic stop on the suspect in the 100 block of N. Willow road where Goettsch was taken into custody on multiple felonies including kidnapping, aggravated assault, endearment and other related charges.

Project Making Safety Improvements to State Route 89A South of Flagstaff
According to ADOT, a federal project improving safety and traffic flow along State Route 89A between Flagstaff and Oak Creek is set to begin soon. A right-turn and passing lane will be added along with wider shoulders, according to the release. It was also stated that the project will continue into the fall and SR89A will be reduced to one lane on weekdays from 7:30am to 4pm and starting March 20th, the stretch will be closed nightly from 8PM to 5am. An alternate route at night or those wishing to avoid delays can take I-17 to State Route 179, according to the release.

HUSD Holds Teacher of the Year Awards
Humboldt Unified School District held their annual Teacher of the Year Awards at the Prescott Resort on Thursday as 4th Grade Teacher at Liberty Traditional School Albert Zalfini and Bradshaw Mountain Middle School English teacher Diane Hamilton both took home the awards. Students wrote essays about why a particular teacher should be teacher of the year for not only the school but the entire district. Once the teachers at the individual schools were chosen, the essays were then judged by members of the district. During the evening, each student read their essay.

High School Students Practice Law During Simulated Trials
Future members of the legal professional had a chance to practice their skills during simulated trials. Five schools participated in their year’s Arizona High School Mock Trials with each team having a coach and an attorney coach. Teams of 6-8 students were give a scenario of an arson case where somebody died and it was their job to argue as the the defense or prosecutor to an actual judge. The day featured four rounds, plus a final round that lasted an hour and twenty minutes each. 1st place went to Prescott High School while Basis Prescott got second. The top winning teams are invited to the state tournament which takes place in the first week of April at the Sandra Day O’Conner Courthouse in Phoenix.

Sprouts to Open
The brand-new Sprouts in the Depot Marketplace on 174 E. Sheldon Street in Prescott will open at 7am on Wednesday. According to a release, the first 200 shoppers in line will receive 20 percent off their initial total purchase along with every shopper receiving one free reusable bag.

Bradshaw Mountain Teacher and Coach David Moran Not Renewed
During a recent Humboldt Unified School District board meeting, it was decided in a 5-0 ruling that the contract of Bradshaw Mountain High School physical education teacher and varsity football coach David Moran would not be renewed.
Humboldt Unified School District Superintendent Daniel Streeter sent a statement to Prescott Valley eNews via email on Wednesday afternoon. “High school interscholastic athletics should be educational in nature. Terms like student-athlete, teacher-coach, and educational-athletics should be used in an intentional manner,” Streeter said in an email statement. “The administration, staff, and community expect the highest standards of excellence to be promoted and modeled with regards to academics, personal growth, and athletics. When someone is not meeting this standard, we need to make a change and find someone who will fit the expectation of our educational community.”
Moran took over as coach of the Bradshaw Mountain High School varsity football team before the 2014 season. During Moran’s three seasons, the Bears went a combined 23-11 with two section championships-the latest coming during the previous campaign. Bradshaw Mountain High School principal Kort Miner said the search would begin immediately with interviews taking place in the beginning of April.

NAZ Suns
The Northern Arizona Suns erased a twenty-four-point deficit and beat the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday afternoon at the Prescott Valley Event Center 127-123. The victory brings the team back to a .500 as the NAZ Suns sit four games out of a playoff spot with eight games to go.
