NORTHERN ARIZONA SUNS
Five Northern Arizona Suns players scored double-digit points including two who notched a double-double as the NAZ Suns broke their five-game losing streak on Saturday, beating the Santa Cruz Warriors 108-93 in front of over 2,500 fans at the Prescott Valley Event Center. The Northern Arizona Suns (13-15) will now embark on a long road trip starting with a matchup against the Delaware 87ers (16-14) on Tuesday and won’t return to the Prescott Valley Event Center until Wednesday February 22nd for a matchup against the Windy City Bulls.
PRESCOTT BADGERS
The Prescott High School girl’s soccer team picked up a big win on Saturday beating the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs 3-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the 4A State Playoffs. A victory on Wednesday against Thunderbird on Wednesday would send the Badgers to the 4A Championship Game.
The Prescott Badgers boy’s basketball team ended the regular season on a losing note, falling to Coconino 63-59 in the makeup game on Saturday. The team’s regular season record finishes at 12-13 overall with a 4-8 mark in section play. The team will now compete in the Grand Region Tournament with a game against Mohave today at 8:00pm.
The girl’s basketball team also didn’t have any luck finishing the regular season on a high note as the Badgers dropped their makeup game against Coconino 48-22 on Saturday. Badgers will now compete in the Grand Region Tournament with a matchup against rival Bradshaw today at 2pm.
BRADSHAW MOUNTAIN BEARS
Bradshaw Mountain’s boy’s soccer team fell in the State Tournament Game last week 1-0 against Gila Ridge on a penalty shot, ending their playoff hopes. The team went 8-3-1 on the year while picking up the school’s first Grand Canyon title in the sport going 6-0 in section.
The Bears boy’s basketball team ended the season on a low note Friday as the team dropped their last regular season game 53-42 against Seton Catholic. Final regular season mark for the Bears was 5-13 with a 5-7 record in section play. Season is not over yet for the Bears as the team will compete in the Grand Canyon Regional Tournament against Mingus today at Flagstaff High School with a noon tip-off.
The Bears women’s basketball team also didn’t have much luck to end the regular season last week as the squad lost to Seton Catholic 66-29 at home. Just like the boys, their season isn’t over yet as the Bears participate in the Grand Canyon Regional Tournament starting today at 2pm against rival Prescott at Flagstaff High School.
The regular season ended on a high note for the Bears wrestling team as the squad placed 5th in sectionals which is one of the best finishes in recent history. Bears will now advance four wrestlers to the state tournament this weekend at the Prescott Valley Event Center. The Bears notched three straight section championship final wins as freshman David Medeville and seniors Olijah Sally and Jacob Kidd all picked up victories.
CHINO VALLEY COUGARS
The Chino Valley Cougars men’s basketball team picked up the win on Friday against Wickenburg 67-62, which broke the two-game losing streak. Cougars now stand at 8-8 with a 4-4 section record going into their next game against Odyssey Institute at home Tuesday at 7pm.
Meanwhile, the Chino Valley Cougars women’s basketball team continue to slid losing their 10th game in a row on Friday, dropping the contest against Wickenburg 52-29 at home. Cougars look to rebound against Odyssey Institute on Tuesday at home. Tip-off is 5:30pm.
EMBRY RIDDLE EAGLES
The Embry Riddle Eagles basketball teams swept University of California-Merced on the road Saturday as the men’s basketball team won 50-42 while the women’s team picked up a 104-95 victory. Both teams are back on the home court against Benedictine University at Mesa as the women tipoff at 2pm and the men 4pm.
YAVAPAI COLLEGE ROUGHRIDERS
The Yavapai College Baseball team will open up the home portion of their schedule today at noon against Salt Lake Community College after going 2-2 on the opening weekend in Henderson Nevada. Meanwhile, the softball team will have their home opener on Tuesday at noon against Paradise Valley Community College following a 5-2 win against Phoenix College on Saturday.
PHOENIX SUNS
Phoenix Suns didn’t have much presence on the defensive portion of the court on Saturday, losing to Milwaukee Bucks 137-112 at home. Now sporting a 16-35 record, the Suns look to their next matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans tonight at 6pm on the road.
ARIZONA COYOTES
The Arizona Coyotes were able to pick up a 3-2 win against the San Jose Sharks in a shootout on the road Saturday night. Coyotes improve to 17-28-6 on the year as the team prepares for a matchup against the Montreal Canadians at home Thursday at 7pm.
