NORTHERN ARIZONA SUNS

It has been a struggle of late for the Northern Arizona Suns as the team continues to slide and lost their fourth straight game on Saturday with a 108-103 defeat to the Iowa Energy. NAZ Suns are back at the Prescott Valley Event Center from a long road trip on Wednesday for a 6:30 pm tipoff against the Salt Lake City Stars.

PRESCOTT BADGERS

Also having a tough time on the court is the Prescott Badgers Men’s basketball team who dropped their 5th straight contest on Friday 50-38 against Lee Williams on the road. The loss dropped the Badgers to 10-11 on the year with a 2-5 mark in section play. Badgers look to rebound on Tuesday at home against rival Bradshaw Mountain with a 7pm tipoff.

The girl’s basketball team, meanwhile, was able to break their short two-game losing streak picking up the win against Lee Williams on the road Friday 35-29. Badgers improve to 6-12 on the year with a 2-6 section record. The Badgers will be at home against rival Bradshaw for a tipoff at 5:30pm on Tuesday.

After winning their last five games, the Badgers girl’s soccer team is headed to the big dance starting against Moon Valley on Wednesday at 6pm. The Badgers finished the regular season 13-4-2 while going 5-1 in section play. Badgers hold the #3 seed in the AIA Girls Soccer State Championships.

Meanwhile, it was a tough way to end the season for the Badger men’s soccer team losing to Bradshaw Mountain 3-1 on Wednesday after being cancelled twice due to weather. However, the Badgers were able to pick up their first two wins of the season in their last three games.

BRADSHAW MOUNTAIN BEARS

The Bradshaw Mountain Bears men’s basketball team broke the four-game losing streak on Friday with a victory over Mohave at home 63-37. After a last second victory at home in the last meeting, the Bears prepare for a matchup at Prescott High School on Tuesday at 7:30pm against the Badgers.

The Bears women’s basketball team picked up their second win in a row on Friday beating Mohave at home 49-25. Bears now stand at 13-8 on the year with a 6-4 record in section play. Next up is the rivalry game against the Badgers at Prescott High School on Tuesday at 5:30pm

On Wednesday the Bradshaw Mountain Bears men’s soccer team picked up the school’s first Grand Canyon section title in the sport, beating rival Prescott at home 3-1. Following a tie with Seton Cathloic, the Bears are ready for their postseason matchup entering the playoffs as the 13th seed to take on #4 Gila Ridge on Tuesday at 6pm on the road. The Bears ended the regular season with a 8-7-1 record while going unbeaten in section play.

A season of development came to an end for the Bears girl’s soccer team on Wednesday losing to Seton Catholic 5-0 on the road. Bears end the season at with a 4-10-2 record while going 2-4 in section play.

At the Larry Legler Wrestling Tournament in Chino Valley, the Bears ended their season with a loss against Chino Valley and Prescott while beating Mayer to finish with a 16-14 overall mark. In the match, Olijah Sally and Jacob Kidd continued their success going 3-0. Kidd improves his mark to 52-3 while Sally pushed his record to 49-4. Additionally, brothers Daniel Medevielle, a junior, and freshman David Medevielle both passed the 40 win mark. The Bears now look to the sectionals on Friday and Saturday at 2pm.

CHINO VALLEY COUGARS

The Chino Valley Cougars men’s basketball team had their three game winning streak broken on Friday losing to Kingman on the road 71-64. The Cougars, who are 14-11 on the year with a 3-3 section record, look forward to a matchup with Northwest Christian at home on Tuesday at 7pm.

Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team continued to struggle on the court losing their tenth straight game Friday, falling to Kingman 50-29 on the road. Cougars look to rebound on Tuesday against Northwest Christian at home on Tuesday at 5:30pm.

YAVAPAI COLLEGE ROUGHRIDERS

The temperatures may still be frigid and the calendar still says January but baseball is back nonetheless as the defending champion Roughriders baseball team opened their season in Nevada, beating Utah State University Eastern 9-2 and Colorado Northeastern Community College 4-2 but lost to Arizona Western College 10-9 and College of Southern Nevada 7-4. Yavapai College makes their home debut on Monday February 6th against Salt Lake Community College for a doubleheader at 12pm and 2pm.

Meanwhile, Yavapai College Softball also returned as the Roughriders went 5-1 at the CSN Tournament in Las Vegas. The team remains on the road for a double header at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix on Tuesday at 12pm and 2pm.

EMBRY RIDDLE EAGLES

It was a bad week for the Embry Riddle Men’s basketball team as the Eagles fell Thursday on a last second hail mary to Simpson University, check out the video and article on PrescotteNews.com, and lost to Pacific Union College on Saturday 80-58. Eagles look to have better luck this week on the road at California Maritime Academy on Thursday at 7:30pm.

Following a loss to Simpson University on Thursday, the Eagle’s women’s basketball team was able to respond and beat Pacific Union College 71-47 on Saturday. Eagles are back on the court at California Maritime Academy Thursday at 5:30pm.

PHOENIX SUNS

The Phoenix Suns lost their third straight game on Saturday, falling to the Denver Nuggets 123-112 in Phoenix. The team now sports as 15-32 record as they prepare for a matchup against the Memphis Grizzles tonight at 8:30pm at home.

ARIZONA COYOTES

The Arizona Coyotes ended the first half of the season on a three game winning streak, beating the Vancouver Canucks 3-0 on Thursday. At the All-Star break, the Coyotes sit 7th in the pacific division with a 16-26-6 record. Coyotes are back on the ice Tuesday against the LA Kings at home.
